Getting Started
______________________________________________________________________________
Overview of KingQWK
KingQWK is an offline reader, designed for unpacking, reading, and
processing packets of messages - primarily from BBS's, in QWK
format. It provides various sorting and edit/interfacing functions.
Extensive on-line help is available in both KingCfg and KingQWK. To
obtain help at any time, press [F1]. To leave help, press [Esc].
You may also customize the KingQWK colors. The information about
paths and colors is stored in a new file, KINGQWK.CTL, which is
created by KingCfg and placed into the current directory.
KingQWK is small and compact freeing up valuable memory for
TSR's, sorting conferences with large numbers of messages and
floppy based systems.
KingQWK is exceptionally fast!
Designed primarily but not exclusively to work in concert with
QWKMerge to make a complete QWK Mail Manangement system.
ANSI support is available with the touch of a key with a
continuous flow display so annoying "MORE?" prompts don't disrupt
the ANSI graphics. The speed of this scolling is configurable.
Additionally the editor, text viewer, and ANSI viewer can all be
configured to external programs. KingQWK uses *YOUR* ANSI driver
for ANSI display! No more ANSI conflicts! No extra memory
wasted!
Delete or Rename QWK packets from the packet selection screen.
KingQWK has the capability of a "TWIT" file to exclude
messages either from configured users or those with defined
strings in the subject field.
KingQWK also has a unique "Magnet" file which is the reverse of
the "TWIT" file. Here user's messages or subject text strings can
be defined so that ONLY these messages are read.
FIDO compliance toggle to use only standard ASCII in QUOTING
and Taglines with no tear bars.
Full Tagline support for multiple tagline files. Taglines may be
up to 75 characters long.
DESQview aware
Support for remote QWK mail door configuration including QMAIL4,
MarkMail, and Tomcat!
Mouse support is available for rat fans.
25/43/50 line video support
KingQWK has the ability to swap-out to XMS, EMS or DISK during
DOS shells leaving a mere 1.8k still in memory.
Read flags and bookmarks are fully supported and configurable for
those who like to only read part of a mail packet at a time.
Configurable personal message bell.
Message indexing and sorting by message number, date, subject,
source, or recipient.
Print and Save messages individually, or all messages: in the
current conference, containing a keyword or phrase in the
subject, from a user or to a user.
New files, bulletins, and News viewing in full ANSI.
Complete archiver configuration
KingQWK is capable of handling up to 10,000 messages PER
CONFERENCE and over 32,000 conferences. This allows reading of
very large archived mail packets created with QWKMerge which
allows you to store BBS mail into packets as large as you have
disk space to accomodate.
KingQWK allows for trimming of QWK packets by deleting
specific messages saving only the messages you want. If you make
a mistake you can unkill a message before you merge the QWK
packet.
Kill and UnKill messages individually, or all messages: in the
current QWK packet, in the current conference, containing a
keyword or phrase in the subject, from a user or to a user.
Note: The QWKMerge utility performs the actual killing of flagged
messages during the merge process.
Enjoy the program!
Installation
To install KingQWK, unZIP the .ZIP file into a directory in your DOS
path. Your reader directory may be used or you may put KingQWK
into a directory of its own.
If you want to run KingQWK from a directory that is neither the current
directory nor on the DOS path, you can use the "SET QWKMDIR=" DOS command
to tell the program where to look for its help and configuration files.
i.e. SET KQWKDIR=C:\KINGQWK. You may type this at the DOS prompt to set
the environment variable, or use it in a BATch file.
Two of the programs in the .ZIP file are necessary for operation. These
two files are KINGQWK.EXE and KINGCFG.EXE. See "Overview of KingQWK"
for the functions of each of these programs. A third necessary file,
KINGQWK.CTL, will be created by KINGCfg in the cu
